History

Phoenix Choir was established by Kay Barlow of Blackheath in 1997.

Over the years there have been several Musical Directors: Kelesi Woodhouse (1997), Roy and Amy Jackson (1998 – 2002), Colin Alston (2002), Kathleen O’Brien (2003). From 2004 to 2011 we were pleased and privileged to have Walter Sutcliffe as our MD.

Rowen Fox joined as Musical Director in 2012 and was instrumental in growing and developing the choir through until 2022.  Under his leadership the choir performed Messiah and Mozart Requiem with full orchestra and enjoyed other key works of the choral canon including Faure Requiem, Haydn The Seasons and Mendelssohn Elijah. We were also privileged to sing several of his compositions including excerpts from his opera Chang’e, his homage to the centenary of Armistice, All this is ended, and excerpts from his prospective oratorio, Albert Morris.

Amy Moore took over as musical Director in 2022.
