Bach to Bach Cantatas

J.S.Bach, Cantata No.4, Christ lay in death’s dark prison
Antonio Lotti, Crucifixus a 8
J.S.Bach, Cantata No. 140, Sleepers, wake!

Phoenix Choir Blue Mountains presented two of Bach’s most beloved cantatas, featuring the talented soprano and baritone soloists Julie Paik and Lewis Barber. Directed by  Rowen Fox, the choir performed the haunting and reflective Easter cantata Christ lay in death’s dark prison, alongside the exuberant Sleepers wake, in a new arrangement featuring oboe, violin and organ. Janette Norcott on the organ was joined by the prodigiously talented Cooney sisters, Elizabeth Cooney on violin and Miriam Cooney on oboe.

As an interlude between the two cantatas the chamber choir performed the Lotti Crucifixus a capella.
